Sania records 500th career victory
HYDEERABAD
Sania Mirza of India has reached a rare milestone of 500
victories in her career when she teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-down Jugic
Salkic and Klemenschits 6-4, 6-2 to enter two women's quarter-final tennis
championship Brussels Open Tuesday night, according to information received
here.
The victory was the 230th Sania in doubles in addition to
270 victories in singles, according to her father Mirza Imran-cum-coach. And,
interestingly, these statistics do not include the results of mixed doubles,
Federation Cup, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.
"It's a special feeling when I was informed of this
monument, and given the fact that I started my professional career and in 2002
I think this is a very good record," said Sania.
The girl in Hyderabad, now ranked No. 11 in world double,
needs to move from one place to get a special entry on the basis of being in
the top 10 for the London Olympics in 2012 later this years.
Sania will continue to work in partnership in the coming
Mattek French Open doubles.
