Over 542,000 students sit as G.C.E(O/L) Exam today in Srilanka
The GCE Ordinary Level (O-L) examination 2012 will commence
today. It will be held in 4,048 centres islandwide, including two special
examination centres at the Colombo Prisons and Young Offenders Training School
in Ambepussa, Examinations Commissioner W M J Pushpakumara said.
Over 542,200 candidates will sit this year’s exam. Of this, 387,593
are school applicants. Carrying hand phones into exam halls are banned for
candidates and teachers on supervision. Only examiners are allowed to carry
hand phones to examination centres, he said.
The Examinations Department said it is compulsory for
candidates to carry a National Identity Card or a valid passport to prove their
identity. Only candidates who have not reached 16 years by October 31 could
produce Postal Identity Cards issued by the Postal Department at the
examination.
A candidate with Postal Identity Cards should forward two
photocopies of page number one and two of the Postal Identity Card to
supervisors at the Examination Hall, the Examinations Commissioner said.
