Dolphin massacre in Kalpitiya
Police have arrested 15 persons in connection with the
dolphin massacre in Kalpitiya which resulted in the death of over 50 dolphins
earlier this week.
The massacre had taken place around 10km off the island of
Baththalangunduwa in Kalpitiya.
Fishermen had complained to authorities that a group of
unidentified persons were engaged in illegal fishing practices which had
resulted in the massacre of the dolphins on January 29 at around 2pm.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in turn
launched an investigation into the incident after informing the President.
Police have now arrested 15 persons who were allegedly
involved in the massacre
